Prison Theatre

Bespoke theatre projects in custodial settings

Matt Britton is an experienced provider of theatre and creative arts programmes in prisons, having delivered residencies, workshops and performances across the UK since 1999.

His workshops break down barriers to learning and create positive outcomes for participants, including: increased confidence, greater inter-personal skills, improved participation in group work activities, performance and creative skills, better problem solving strategies, advanced focus and motivation, a sense of achievement, and benefits to mental and physical well-being.

Matt’s approach motivates participants who might not ordinarily engage with traditional education, by offering workshops and projects that are active, fun and participatory, accessible to a broad range of personal and educational backgrounds, inclusive of literacy difficulties, and require no previous theatre experience.

He has delivered creative residencies across the criminal justice system, nationwide, including prisons, YOIs, probation group settings, as well as teaching theatre-in-prison modules to undergraduates in university settings.
